Community Service

Some of you have asked why I am so passionate about the community service that I give. Simply put, this is the way I was raised by action and word. I was taught that to be a Patriotic American you need to GIVE,GIVE,GIVE. I come from a family of volunteers, including my great grandfather who was a volunteer school board superintendent for 35 years. I have tried to meet those expectations every day. I am passionate about the Museum because I feel it is important to preserve this important aspect of our history so that we can use it as a teaching tool for future generations to learn from. The Museum has a special story to tell about Centerville’s home industry which made this community a sustainable community. The Museum is housed in the historic Whitaker home, of which our City has been fortunate to have had the opportunity to preserve this home on Main Street. No other building in the State of Utah has as intriguing a story to tell as the Whitaker home. The history of early Centerville is ingrained in it's walls. This history tells of a town becoming self-sustaining. It is an emblem of sacrifices, hardships and joys that took place long ago, of which if we embrace we can create a more cohesive community for ourselves. By volunteering and learning this history we link the generations together.
